| A mailing list is a
service that allows people to share thoughts, comments and opinions
about a subject. Users send their messages to a specific email address,
which will in turn distribute the message, along with any others
that have been posted, to all users who are members of that mailing
list.
This mailing list is unmoderated. This means that
members are relied upon to ensure that their posts are appropriate
to the subject at hand. Much leeway is given regarding subject matter,
as threads sometimes tend to wander away from the original subject,
and Progressive Metal is a large and encompassing subject. Here
are a few basic guidelines to consider when posting:
- Racial, ethnic, religious, or gender-based slurs will NOT be
tolerated. Prog appeals to a wide and distinguished audience,
and everyone deserves the right to enjoy it equally. Offenders
will be given one warning, and be removed from the list for a
repeat offense.
- Binary encoded file attachments should not be transmitted via
the list. The list may however, be used to arrange a mutually
agreed upon transfer between two members, via private e-mail.
- Debates are highly encouraged; flaming, name-calling, and personal
attacks are highly discouraged. Remember, diplomacy is the ability
to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they actually
look forward to the trip <grin>.
- Spamming WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AT ALL. This list is not to be
used to further your business interests, and any violation of
this policy will result in IMMEDIATE removal of the offender from
the list. No warnings. That being said, often the question will
arise as to where one can purchase a copy of this or that CD.
Because this music that we love is very hard to find, especially
in the states, feel free to recommend any import house with which
you have had positive dealings. This is strongly encouraged. For
more info, also check out our 'albums and merchandise' section
under links. These
are vendors that various members of the list have had positive
dealings with in the past.
The basic question to ask oneself is, 'Is my post
designed to piss people off and create barriers, or is it designed
to further our enjoyment of great Progressive Metal?' Let your conscience
be your guide... and ENJOY!
Please not that the nature of a mailing list is to
exchange message threads through your mailbox. Hence, once you have
subscribed to the mailing list, you will receive lots of emails
on your mailbox. If you do not wish to receive a considable quantity
of emails per day, you can change the way you'll subscribe to the
mailing list on it's web
page by editing your membership.
There are three ways of
message delivery:
•
Individual Emails
Each message on the mailing list will be sent to your mailbox, including
the messages you write.
•
Daily Digest
You receive a digest containing 25 messages at time.
• Only
Special Announcements
Only important mesages sent by the moderators. Check this option
if you don't want to participate in everyday discussions about Symphony
X and the related topics, but you still want to receive important
news from the modarators about the band.
• No
emails (message board mode)
No emails will be sent to your mailbox. To read the messages on
the group, you log on the web page (at Yahoo
Groups) to read the messages in a "web forum" format.
